Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund Is Gold Sponsor Of ‘Eyes On Design’ For Fourth Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 16, 2005) - The Bridgestone® Firestone® Trust Fund will serve in its fourth year as a gold sponsor of the 18th Annual Eyes on Design, the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology’s (DIO) annual fundraising event to assist and educate the blind and visually impaired. As part of the festivities, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC will be hosting the VIP Hospitality area, featuring a display of performance passenger and light truck tires.

The event, an international celebration of the very best in automotive design and art, will be held June 24-26, 2005, on the grounds of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.

Historically, the exhibit has showcased more than 200 vehicles, including Indy 500 speedsters, stock cars, Formula One racers, and hot rods. The event is recognized as one of the largest and most complete vehicle displays ever assembled, and attracts automotive designers, automotive decision-makers and consumers from around the world.

“We are honored to continue our support of the DIO’s efforts to benefit the visually impaired,” said Michael Martini, president, original equipment consumer tire division, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT).

“This is the fourth year the Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund has been a gold sponsor for Eyes on Design and we couldn’t be more proud of our association with this wonderful organization,” said Christine Karbowiak, chair of the Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund. “That we can assist the DIO in its important work is both gratifying and important to advancing the technology used to enhance independence for the blind and visually impaired.”

The Michigan-based DIO was founded in 1972 by business people and local ophthalmologists to provide the support and tools necessary to enhance independence for the visually impaired and blind; develop career opportunities in the allied health field that will provide better trained, caring ophthalmic technicians; and help provide answers to baffling problems related to the eye and vision through research.
