Spring Cleaning Takes More Than A Feather DusterFirestone Complete Auto Care join millions of volunteers in Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup

BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. (May 1, 2007) – Tidy up the garage—check. Plant flowers in the backyard—check. Clean up the community and collect 2.5 million scrap tires—check. For the sixth year in a row, Firestone Complete Auto Care™, along with its parent companies BFS Retail & Commercial Operations, LLC (BFRC) and Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc. (BSAH), is helping clean up communities as part of Keep America Beautiful’s® Great American Cleanup™. Between March 1 and May 31, BFRC will donate thousands of man-hours, supplies and materials for the Great American Cleanup and financially support the program’s efforts around the nation.

“The Great American Cleanup is a program we are happy to see succeed and grow each year, and we’re proud of our teammates’ commitment to the environment,” said Larry Magee, Chairman, CEO and President of BFRC. “Our teammates have made the well-being of their local communities a personal responsibility.”

In March, teammates from Firestone Complete Auto Care joined a mix of movie stars, television personalities and political leaders to help with litter pickup, graffiti removal and tree plantings at the Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup launch rally in Los Angeles, Calif. A few weeks later, teammates in Gulfport, Miss., gathered to continue the cleanup of areas damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Across the country, BFRC’s retail stores and other plants and facilities operated by BSAH are participating in locally organized community cleanup events.

In addition to Firestone Complete Auto Care, each of BFRC’s retail stores nationwide—including Tires Plus™ Total Car Care and ExpertTire stores—will support the Keep America Beautiful campaign by:

  • Accepting do-it-yourselfer used engine oil from the public for proper recycling at no charge;
  • Accepting do-it-yourselfer automotive batteries from the public for proper recycling at no charge;
  • Accepting scrap tires collected during organized community cleanup days for proper recycling at no charge.

“We’re proud of the difference BFRC teammates are making across the country. In our efforts to clean up communities from coast to coast, they are serving as leaders in establishing an effective program for recycling used automotive products and fluids and promoting community cleanup efforts,” Magee added. “The results are visible and substantial. In 2006, the partnership helped collect 2.5 million scrap tires across the country.”

BFRC embraces a wide variety of environmental programs in the commitment to keeping communities clean, including recycling scrap tires, oil, oil filters, antifreeze, air conditioning refrigerant, batteries and lead wheel weights, as well as other items. Most of the scrap tires collected will be recycled into beneficial uses such as construction material, fuel and rubberized surfaces for playgrounds or roads.

BFRC is a subsidiary of BSAH, which, through its various subsidiaries, has a long tradition of supporting the environment and conservation. BSAH companies have been recognized by various organizations, including: Keep America Beautiful, Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc., the Environmental Protection Agency, the Conservation Fund, the Environmental Federation of Oklahoma, the Iowa Governor’s Office, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the National Geographic/Eastman Kodak Company/Conservation Fund.
