Firestone Building Products Invests In Science EducationNew center will offer unique learning opportunities for younger students

PRESCOTT, Ark. (October 1, 2007) – Elementary school students in Prescott, Ark., will benefit from a new science center thanks to a $100,000 donation from Firestone Building Products Company, LLC (FSBP).

The Firestone Science Center at Prescott Elementary School will provide younger students with hands-on education in scientific concepts including the environment, physical sciences, geology, health, astronomy and technology.

“The partnership with the local Firestone Building Products facility will provide a setting to ensure that our children have early access to the best and most creative learning environment, which will prepare them for success in the global economic marketplace of the 21st century,” said Hyacinth Deon, Superintendent of Prescott School District.

In addition to the cash installments from the Bridgestone Firestone Trust Fund, the company has donated a portable building that will house the center. Firestone teammates will serve on the planning and development committee with school district staff. The project is also supported by the Prescott Chamber of Commerce and U.S. Rep. Mike Ross.

“The Firestone Building Products team is excited about this opportunity to provide resources that will enhance our children’s ability to compete and succeed in future challenges,” said Bill Smith, FSBP's Prescott Plant Manager.

FSBP’s Prescott facility produces EPDM single-ply rubber roofing, reinforced rubber roofing, flashing material and rubber membrane seam tape. It has operated in the southwest-Arkansas community since 1970.
