Firestone Complete Auto Care™ Car Care Academy Launches Nationwide Girl Scouts TourFree educational program educates young women about car care

BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. (April 9, 2008) – Driver education will reach a whole new level this spring with hands-on activities, role model instruction and interactive learning materials designed to give young women confidence behind the wheel and under the hood of a car.

This spring hundreds of Girl Scouts across the country will learn about vehicle maintenance and driver safety at a series of ten educational seminars. Firestone Complete Auto Care’s Car Care Academies, conducted by automotive education specialist and former race car driver Trisha Hessinger, are also designed to showcase career options in the automotive industry, a field that strives for more female representation.

“Learning the basics of car care is important for all drivers, particularly those who don’t traditionally have a means to learn such information,” said Hessinger. “Whether or not they are old enough to have a driver’s license, when young women come to a Car Care Academy, they learn about safety on the road and the essentials of vehicle maintenance. This kind of information not only helps drivers save money and extend the life of their vehicles, but it could also open their eyes to a new passion.”

For more than 30 years, Firestone Complete Auto Care has been conducting Car Care Academies — free, hands-on events that teach car care tips and demonstrate techniques that help drivers save money and stay safer on the road.

Firestone Complete Auto Care has partnered with the Girl Scouts to educate young women about the importance of keeping their vehicles in prime condition as well as career opportunities in the automotive industry. The national Girl Scout ten-stop tour includes Academies in Arkansas, Hawaii, Ohio, Michigan, Montana, New York, Rhode Island, Mississippi, and Oregon.
