Do Your P.A.R.T. During National Tire Safety WeekFirestone Complete Auto Care,™ Tires Plus™ and ExpertTire™ offer free tire inspections to the public

BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. (April 15, 2008) – During the seventh annual National Tire Safety Week, April 20-26, 2008, the Rubber Manufacturers Association and BFS Retail & Commercial Operations, LLC (BFRC) store locations encourage drivers to do their P.A.R.T. — Pressure, Alignment, Rotation and Tread — when it comes to tire maintenance. As they do all year long, Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus and ExpertTire will provide free tire inspections at store locations nationwide during National Tire Safety Week to promote driver safety and tire care awareness.

By checking tire pressure and tread once a month and regularly rotating and aligning a vehicle’s tires, drivers will not only stay safer on the road, but also increase their vehicles’ fuel efficiency.

  • Tire Inflation — By maintaining properly inflated tires, drivers may see a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy. Without it, they risk wasting a mile or two per gallon.
  • Alignment Inspection — Poor alignment causes tires to wear out faster and results in poor handling. By properly aligning your tires, drivers can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 10 percent.
  • Rotation — By rotating tires, drivers can ensure equal wear and preserve balanced handling and traction.
  • Tread Inspection — Uneven or worn tread can reduce a vehicle’s grip on the road, which makes its engine work harder to get to its destination. These factors can contribute to poor fuel economy.

Firestone Complete Auto Care, Tires Plus, ExpertTire and the Rubber Manufacturers Association strongly recommend that drivers take five minutes every month to check all four tires, as well as the spare. Each driver who takes the time to do his or her P.A.R.T. helps ensure safer vehicles, safer roads and safer communities.
