Bridgestone Americas, John Colemon Elementary Students Reveal “Green” Artwork to the World

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 24, 2008) – It’s Earth Week and three students at John Colemon Elementary School in Smyrna, Tenn., are going green with the help of Nashville, Tenn.-based Bridgestone Americas (BSA) and its subsidiary, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT).

BSA asked students at the elementary school, the adopt-a-school partner of BFNT’s La Vergne, Tenn., plant, to interpret the company’s “One Team, One Planet” theme through art. The students responded with gusto, and today BSA representatives unveiled a display of three students’ efforts at the Nashville International Airport in space normally reserved for the company’s advertising.

“Earth Week was the perfect time to challenge our plant’s adopt-a-school partner students to tie into our theme, One Team, One Planet. The students did a wonderful job with the theme and we’re proud to display their art in a very visible spot in the airport,” said Christine Karbowiak, Vice President of Public Affairs, BSA. “These students are brimming with talent and enthusiasm. This was a great way to reward their creativity in a public way and to reinforce an important message that when it comes to the environment, we’re all in this together.”

“Nashville International Airport supports Bridgestone Americas’ innovative use of its advertising space,” said Raul Regalado, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. “The millions of passengers traveling through our airport will see visual displays of Nashville-area students and a business’ commitment to being ‘green’ partners in our community.”

During the unveiling, Joe Phillips, Principal of John Colemon Elementary, along with his students and art instructor, Melissa Lindsay, expressed their gratitude to Bridgestone Americas for this unique opportunity and the company’s ongoing support as its community partner.

“The students have been so excited about this project and have enjoyed creating many different ways to illustrate the theme, One Team, One Planet,” said Phillips. “We are appreciative to have such a wonderful corporate partner.”
