Youngwood Plant Commits To Environmental ExcellenceFirestone Building Products’ facility accepted into prestigious EPA program

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. (Aug. 15, 2008) – The Firestone Building Products Company, LLC (FSBP) Youngwood, Pa., facility joins three other FSBP facilities that have been accepted into the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) prestigious National Environmental Performance Track program. The program recognizes facilities that comply with and exceed the requirements of environmental laws.

“The Youngwood team is honored to be accepted into the Performance Track program for our commitment to the environment,” said Dave Crouse, Youngwood Plant Manager. “This accomplishment was made possible by our Youngwood teammates, who take quality production and environmental protection very seriously.”

The EPA created the voluntary Performance Track program in 2000 to reward and recognize companies that show a commitment to improving environmental performance over time. The program encourages facilities to work continuously on enhancing environmental performance and to work closely with their community and employees.

In order to qualify for the Performance Track program, the Youngwood facility fulfilled a number of requirements, including: implementing a successful Environmental Management System that enables the facility to reduce its environmental impact; complying with environmental regulations; committing to and achieving specific environmental performance goals; and making a commitment to remain involved and active in the community.

The Youngwood facility has committed itself to looking for ways to enhance its current recycling programs for various non-hazardous waste streams. “With its acceptance into this program, the Youngwood facility joins an elite group of environmental leaders,” said Dan Fiorino, Division Director of Performance Track. “The facility is making tangible improvements in its performance that contribute to a cleaner, healthier world for its employees, community and the nation.”

The Youngwood facility produces polyisocyanurate (polyiso) insulation, a rigid foam roofing insulation material. With its superior energy efficiency, greater cost effectiveness and proven fire safety, Firestone polyiso is the insulation trusted most by roofing professionals. Polyiso rigid foam board insulation is used in approximately 60 percent of all new commercial construction applications. All Firestone polyiso insulations use EPA-approved blowing agents.

The Youngwood facility is the fourth FSBP facility to be accepted into this program, joining FSBP facilities in Corsicana, Texas, DeForest, Wis., and Salt Lake City, Utah.
