SCCA Champions Drive To Victory On Bridgestone-brand Potenza™ Tire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 29, 2008) — Bridgestone-brand Potenza™ tires shod the winning cars in the STS2, STS2L and STU classes in The Tire Rack® SCCA National Solo National Championships for 2008.

Top Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) drivers from around the country showcased the outstanding performance attributes of the Bridgestone brand Potenza RE-01R™ tire during the four-day event, held September 16-19 at Heartland Park Topeka.

“During SCCA competitions, tires, and the driver’s confidence in them, are essential to overall success. These wins continue the Bridgestone-brand Potenza tire’s impressive track record,” said Phil Pacsi, Vice President, Consumer Tire Marketing, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT). “Drivers have been competing and winning SCCA Solo events on Bridgestone-brand tires throughout the year in preparation for this championship event and we’re extremely proud of our commanding presence.”

SCCA Solo competitors in the Street Touring S (STS), S2 (STS2), Street Touring S Ladies (STSL), S2 Ladies (STS2L), Street Touring Extreme (STX) and Street Touring Ultra (STU) class came to know and rely upon the outstanding grip and consistency of the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R. Solo events consist of autocross skill contests that emphasize a car’s handling characteristics.

“From the first run, right out of the box, the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R’s really allowed me to perform up to my full potential,” said Mike King

(Jacksonville, Fla.), who captured his second straight STS2 class Championship, driving a Honda CRX Si. “The Potenza tires stayed very consistent and stable, and that gave me confidence through the course that was invaluable.”

Michelle Seelig (Edmond, Okla.), also competing in a Honda CRX Si, secured her second championship this year on Bridgestone-brand Potenza RE-01R tires.

“The tires are fantastic. I can carry more speed through the sweepers and the tires allow more response in the slalom. They’re less affected by cold conditions,” said the 2008 STS2L class champion.

Winning the STU class was Colin Fiedler (Milwaukee, Wis.). This was his first time competing in the STU class and he ran his daily-driver 2007 Subaru WRX STi with Potenza RE-01Rs.

“I love the Bridgestone tires. They held up extremely well and are very forgiving,” said Fiedler. “I didn’t have any heat issues and the Potenzas were exceptionally consistent.”
