Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions Focuses on Fuel Efficient Truck TiresEPA SmartWay-Certified Tires Take Main Stage in BBTS Exhibits

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 19, 2009) — Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions (BBTS) will feature commercial truck tires certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program March 19 - 21 at the Mid-America Trucking Show held at the Kentucky Exposition Center. BBTS will exhibit its Smartway certified tires in booth 36456 of the South Wing, and also in booth 13072 of the designated EPA SmartWay area in the North Wing.

Tires that earn EPA SmartWay certification must achieve at least three percent better total vehicle (steer, drive and trailer positions) fuel economy than the EPA defined average, or a 15% reduction in rolling resistance per tire by wheel position. Bridgestone brand radial tires currently certified by SmartWay are the R287 steer, R280 steer, M720 drive, R195F trailer, and Greatec wide base Drive and Trailer.

“To help fleets operate more efficiently, the SmartWay program provides information and options that allow fleets to make the right choices when specifying tires for optimum fuel efficiency – including recommendations for both original equipment and replacement tires. Bridgestone brand SmartWay certified tires are designed to aid in decreasing rolling resistance or the amount of drag created by tires as the vehicle runs down the highway. These tires are designed to help reduce heat loss as they flex and unflex when rolling into and out of contact with the pavement,” says Chris Hoffman, Manager, TBR & Retread Product Marketing, BBTS.
