WELLFORD, S.C. (March 24, 2009) — The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control recently rewarded the Firestone Building Products Company, LLC (FSBP) Wellford, S.C., facilitys commitment to the environment by accepting the facility into the South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program (SCEEP).
SCEEP is a voluntary program for companies committed to continuous environmental improvement in order to protect and preserve South Carolina's environment. Facilities apply for membership in SCEEP by either submitting documentation of participation in a national, regional or state recognized environmental program or by submitting an environmental excellence plan. It is the intention of SCEEP that all members strive to continually improve their environmental plan.
I am proud of our team for all the measures we have taken to preserve the environment, said Greg Sharrun, Plant Manager of the Wellford facility. We are honored to be accepted into this prestigious program and are committed to being stewards of the environment.
The environmental plan of the Wellford facility, which produces Thermoplastic Roofing Membranes and accessories for industrial flat roof systems, includes several initiatives to reduce the plants waste stream. The facility has installed grinding and pelletizing equipment that contributes to the recycling effort. To further preserve the environment, the facility installed wire screen baskets in the storm drains to prevent any debris and resin pellets from finding their way into the surrounding wetlands.
The Wellford facility is ISO 14001 certified and has also received the Bridgestone Americas Environmental Award Pollution Prevention.
