Ground Broken For Prescott School District’s Firestone Science CenterState-of-the-art facility to be ready for 2010-2011 school year

PRESCOTT, Ark. (May 24, 2010) - Ground was broken May 17, 2010, for the Firestone Science Center, a state-of-the-art facility being built to engage and educate Prescott, Ark., elementary school students in the fields of biology, physics, chemistry and other areas of scientific research.

An idea developed through a partnership between teammates at the Firestone Building Products, LLC (FSBP) plant in Prescott and the Superintendent of the Prescott School District, Hyacinth Deon, the Firestone Science Center will allow elementary school students the ability to explore all facets of scientific discovery.

“The Prescott plant’s vision of a project to which Firestone could contribute and enhance the Prescott community has become a reality in the form of the Firestone Science Center,” said Bill Smith, Director of FSBP Manufacturing, and former FSBP Prescott Plant Manager.

Along with a long-term financial commitment, Firestone will contribute materials to be used in the construction of the facility, such as metal roofing materials.

FSBP’s financial pledge of $100,000 comes from the Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund, an organization seeking to improve the communities in which it operates, with a special emphasis on education, and will be spread over a fiveyear span. Additional support has been secured by U.S. Congressman Mike Ross(D-Ark.) through various stimulus funds.
