Bridgestone Run-Flat Tires are OE on the All-New 2013 Cadillac ATS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 7, 2013) – Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (Bridgestone) is pleased to announce its Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT (run-flat) is original equipment (OE) on the all-new 2013 Cadillac ATS. This is the first ever Bridgestone run-flat OE fitment on a GM vehicle.

Bridgestone supplies GM with run-flat tires in size 225/40RF18 88W (front) and 255/35RF18 90W (rear) for fitment on the ATS Premium Collection, the highest level package available on the new ATS.

The Potenza RE050A RFT is an ultra high performance summer tire equipped with race-proven technology that contributes to solid wet and dry traction. Its asymmetrical tread pattern also increases surface contact to enhance acceleration and cornering while at the same time promotes rapid water evacuation and reduction in road noise. Thanks to run-flat technology, the tires are also designed to provide temporary mobility for a distance of up to 50 miles at up to 50 mph after experiencing a total loss of air. This run-flat feature allowed GM to forgo providing a spare tire, wheel and jack or tire inflation kit, thereby also saving weight and trunk space in the ATS design.

“We are extremely excited to supply GM with these tires for the upscale application on the Cadillac ATS,” said Michael Martini, President, Original Equipment, U.S. and Canada Consumer Tire Sales Division, BATO. “Not only are we thrilled to partner with GM on this brand new vehicle, but these fitments represent the first supply of our run-flat tires to GM. Utilizing our premier run-flat technology on such a prestigious Cadillac vehicle is a win-win situation when it comes to brand image.”

The Potenza RE050A RFT will be produced at BATO’s manufacturing facility in Wilson, N.C.

The Cadillac ATS was recently named the North American Car of the Year at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Mich.
